Celebrating Heirlooms & Giveaway
An heirloom Party.
What a great idea.
Be sure to go visit Marie
and all the other participants at Emma Calls Me Mama
Here are some family photos:
A picture of my great grandparents
My Mom
Jiggs and Maggie
and a story.
They were part of my Mom's salt and pepper shaker
collection from when she was a little girl.
this particular set was from her pen pal overseas.
I have to tell you, a few years ago when she gave this to me,
it meant absolutely nothing to me.
I just thought how clueless she was as to what i liked and didn't like.
I guess you know, I have grown to value these as special treasures now.
My folks are still with us,
but it is one of he few things i have from when she was little,
or from any of my family really.
I get a bit green with envy at others
who have so many of their family treasures.
I have learned to really appreciate these small tokens of love from the past.
And this is my Bible that my Mom and Dad gave me when I was 11.
And Scott's book of Daily readings from his godparents in 1957..
And let's not forget his little baby shoes,
with locks from his first hair cut inside.
( we just got these upon his Mom's passing last December.)
I know some of these may not fall into the Heirloom category,
but they are special treasures to us.
thanks for letting me share.

Love all your heirloom pictures....I have a special place in my heart for pictures like that. Both my husband and I love them ...although the last one that my hubby brought back from his childhood home in Quebec kind of scares me ...if feels like his great grandfather is staring at us and eating dinner with us.
ReplyDeleteYour post below made me dizzy with all that you got accomplished ...was that all in one day ? Amazing !
Hugs,
Bre
Barb,
ReplyDeleteI love seeing family heirlooms of all kinds. My parents recently passed away and I cherish all of the photos, baby shoes, jewelery & bibles. Having our history in front of us is warming to me. Lisa

ReplyDeleteHi Barb!
ReplyDeleteI "tagged" you at my blog. Please stop by.
A party? How exciting!
Hi!!! Love the last photo...like it was taken 100 years ago.Great post, talk soon,Chrissy
ReplyDeleteI think they all fit the heirloom category perfectly! The little baby shoes with the lock of hair are very special, you can't replace that. Family pictures are my favorite thing too. It's so fun/strange to look at the past generations and imagine that you actually came from their lineage, especially the ones you never met!
ReplyDeleteIsn't it funny what we thought was "corney" at a younger age, has become dear and sentimental as we get older and appreciate the thought that went into the item and gift. Hope my girls appreciate all the "stuff" I've given to them with great love.

Those are wonderful heirlooms...thanks for sharing them with us!

Wonderful heirlooms...especially the Bibles & the shoes.
ReplyDeleteAll the photos are too sweet. That Shirley Temple syrup pitcher is so funny. Never seen anything like it. But I do love me a Shirley Temple, yummy. :)
ReplyDeletelove all the b & w pics!!!
ReplyDeleteI spotted that Shirley Temple pitcher and smiled. My mom had the mug growing up and when I visited gramma , I drank from it too. I told my mom one day I wanted that. Now mom has it. And I found the matching pitcher and bowl for it and bought them as gifts for her. One day the whole set will be mine. I loved seeing this once again.
ReplyDeleteI think they are all heirloom quality. I love the baby shoes!!
ReplyDeleteYou asked about my style - anything vintage, romantic, very similar tastes to you I believe.
Have a great weekend!
Leann
Forgot to tell you
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday to you
Happy Birthday to you
Happy Birthday to you
Happy Birthday Dear Barb
Happy Birthday to you!
Loved the story of Jiggs & Maddie. And I'm happy that you now appreciate them. I could kick myself now at some of the stuff I didn't ask my Grandma for before she sold it. When I was in my 20's I could care less about family things. Now I treasure everything. Maybe too much so.
ReplyDeleteI love Jiggs and Maggie. They are so cute and make me smile at their expressions. Find a cute shelf for your kitchen and let them watch over your every move. I can imagine them talking like the Thanksgiving salt and pepper on the Publix commercial last fall... very cute!
ReplyDeleteVery wonderful treasures! I really like the Shirley Temple pitcher and treasure my old pictures.
ReplyDeleteBlessings!

What wonderful heirlooms...I love the Bibles and family pictures. Just learned of this party, so hope to join in next time. We just inherited a box of old pictures that I'm so happy to have, and would love to share them with others that appreciate things from the past.

Mary
