I am discouraged.....

this is short.....and not too sweet.

I get a lot of anon/spam to filter through on my blog. Most of it is just other sites trying to sneak in their unrelated selling sites.  Those go into spam and are deleted, but taking too much time. They outweigh the good comments right now, but I guess that is because I do not post as much as I used too.

Then I got this anon comment:

No, I don't like this. This site is needless and the content is the evidence of bad taste. Especially the white piece of broken something. Please take it offline. Thanks in advance! on Victorian to Rust.
thanks in advance?????
Now, every time I see an anon email I am nervous to open it....
I know I get way more nice things said, than bad, but it kind of takes you back.
We all work hard on our pages....and love what we do....and maybe I am just too sensitive right now, but...
My first attitude when I read the note, was one of love, and feeling bad the person who felt it necessary to write..(and not sign it either) that they cannot find good to say about people, how unhappy they must be. but now just feel sad....
I am trying to figure out how to take Anon off, without deleting other opportunities for people to comment.  ( on my blog, anon is with open ID. if you take anon off, it also take open ID off)
I do not like word verification...I find it hard to read...for myself and I am sure others.
so there is:
regular user, includes open ID. Can you tell me what that means???
user w/Google accounts????
only members....don't think I want this one...if it is one that has note that says you have not been invited to this blog.

anyway, I said too much....just trying to vent and get it off my chest..
thanks for listening
(oh, by the way, that top picture is the 'broken something' they are referring to.

  1. Some people are just plain rude & have no empathy for others. You shouldn't even give them the time of day. My anonymous comments go into a spam folder & I don't have to deal with them. Not sure why you have to. I don't know much about the workings of blogger..........so I'm not much help. I do know that you have a lovely blog & I enjoy reading & seeing pictures of whatever you'd like to share. It's your blog after all. You can do whatever you want. Right? Right!
Sending you big ((((HUGS))) & prayers for a great day!

  2. Oh Barb, I am so sorry you received such a hurtful message! Please know that I think your blog is beautiful, just like you, and your posts are delightful and very enjoyable! I love seeing what you put up and the treasures you find. I hope your day is blessed!

  3. Obviously, this person has "issues"...and I'm guessing that they are NOT with you or your blog.

My granny always said "consider the source"...so don't let it bother you.

We all find blogs and blog posts that are "not our cup of tea"...but, the proper thing to do is to just keep on moving...realizing we are all different and have different tastes, interests, etc. The improper thing to do is to be snide and rude...apparently, this person had issues at an early age...and did not learn "good manners".

    Hugs,

    Kathy

  4. Wow! People have nothing better to do but make rude comments. As my mother used to say, those that are meanest are not very happy inside and being mean makes them fulfilled and feeling better. I am so sorry that someone would b so uncaring about your feelings. I, for one, love visiting your site and seeing the beautiful things and your joy in sharing your joy in your granddaughter. Keep posting away! With love and caring! Sherrie

  5. Barbarta Jean, funny you should write this post at this time. Starting Friday evening I received approximately 300 spam anonymous comments each day throughout the weekend. I did not check my email until Sunday night and I had nearly 900 of these abnoxious comments to delete. Not only is this annoying on one email address, but all these comments go to my main email address I use for work. I too have considered blocking anonymous comments. It's a decision I have to address. I will tell you this. I had two posts where the word "sign" appeared in the post title and I paint a lot of signs. But those two in particular seem to be gathering major anonymous comments. See if there is a thread to your blog titles.

Now as for this very cruel sad person who has nothing better to do with their time? A lot of us out there see chippy, worn and rust as extremely beautiful with a lot of character. Ignore this mean hateful person. You have a lot to offer so don't let that one meanie ruin your love of blogging and junking. I basically don't even read the anonymous stuff. I too probably have received some of these nasty comments. I am so sorry you were hurt by this individual but please don't take it to represent the blogging community as a whole. Try to have a good day.

  6. People can be mean spirited. Funny, right after I read your post I got an email regarding a table that I listed on craigslist with a snide comment "I really hate to tell you this but this table is from Sears, from the late 60's to 70's." Now the funny thing is I didn't even portray this table as old. I had repurposed it with chalk paint and wax and then applied gold gilting to the trim and handles, to look frenchy and the title said Frenchy Side Table. I even put that in the description. Oh well. Again, as my mother told me, the meanest people have very low self-esteems and find great reward from saying mean things to or about others. This makes them feel better as a person. Just remember that, because I love your posts and pictures.

  7. Well, Barb...don't be discouraged!!! It's just someone who needed to "vent"...pun intended!

I think your white vents are lovely...especially to someone like me...a mixed media artist!

I, too have mixed feelings about the dumb 'ol comment moderation and those silly, blurry words.. At least you got a LIVE body typing harsh words. I keep getting VIAGRA and other such drug dealers! LOL

Keep up your good intentions and just ignore those bad apples!

  8. ok so if a site doesnt grab or appeal to you then just don't go there geez why do some folks just have tobe mean i don't get that. besides i liked the broken white something ;)

  9. I say delete it and keep doing what you do. I don't have an ID and get very frustrated when I can't leave a comment. The beauty of it is that the person who left the negative and cowardly comment doesn't have to view the blog if they don't like it. That's on them! I love the "broken thingy" and am so glad you posted it! Stay true to you girlie!

  10. What a terribly mean thing to do, write such a nasty little message anonymously.
I have set mine to Registered User, includes OpenID, no idea really what that means, but I don't get anonymous comments and still seem to get comments from all the people that matter. That seems to be the best option to me.
Don't let it get you down!

  11. Hi Barbara Jean.. Don't let it get to you. They are the one with the problem, no one is forcing them to visit. You have many loyal followers because of your joy in what you do, and your friendship and caring shines through. So stay true to yourself, turn the other cheek, you brighten many a persons day.
Although I very seldom comment it always a pleasure to see your blog posts pop up.
    Hugs Alveen

  12. I'm really sorry you received this odd comment. Why bother saying anything at all? My comments are set to Registered User-includes Open ID. I used to have it where Anyone could comment and I received too much spam, now I get very little, if any.
You know I love all the treasures you share!

  13. There's always got to be someone doesn't there?? I don't accept anonymous comments anymore...I can't stand the constant blather. It's not that big of a deal to have a Google account to comment...I cannot STAND word verification either. Every once in a while I'll get a comment that has sneaky link and I go to my blog and delete it immediately. I'm so sorry you're worried by all this. On settings, I selected Registered Users....xxoo, Dawn

  14. Sweetie, just keep doing what you do and ignore the dork. Love your blog and love your posts and love you.
I have never left a bad comment on anyone ever! Why would you do that? I think someone is jealous of your great personality that comes through in every post.
I know the comment thing is hard, but keep it open. Too many other people love stopping by and letting you know how brilliant you are! Big hugs!

  15. I'm sorry that people can be cruel. You have a great blog please don't let those rude people destroy something that you love doing.

  16. Hi Barb,
I am so with you on that!!!! You vent all you want! I will listen :)
I feel bad for not blogging and having such big gaps inbetween but I too get tired of weeding thru 3 comments and 72 spams. Not sure what to do and I too hate the word verification. I have to put my readers on to do it and so I just dont leave a comment. LOL
I do have my privacy settings to I have to "approve" the comments before they go on my blog. That has helped ALOT. If I can help, let me know. I get the frustration.
    BIG HUGS TO YOU!!!!

And I love your rusty, broken thingys....I don't always comment on blogs I visit but I love them nontheless...and I hate the word verification thingy and I also get all the porn and VI ads in my spam.....just one little opening and evil finds a way.....

    Hugs to you, my friend....cleo

  18. You know, blogs are like fashion. Just because there are polyester gabradine pants out there for sale, doesn't mean you have to buy them. Blogs are a form of expression - to each their own. If you don't care for one, don't read or subscribe to it. For you my friend, I would say, "keep creating what you love." There are plenty of us who appreciate it. For Anon, let them have their poly-gab. Keep your heart well and have a most beautiful day.

  19. Do not, I repeat, do not pay attention to those spam emails! Some people truly need something better to do with their time. I love everything you post - even if I don't have time to comment. I have my Blogger settings where I have to approve every comment. That has substantially cut down on spam and if I don't like what someone has to say (usually a spammer), I simply hit delete.

  20. It can be a strange world at times, sorry this person set out to be mean to you. We all love seeing what you post and you better just keep doing it!! So there....just bug the heck out of them!

I do get these comments but I just delete them...most of this stuff just comes to my email, so I don't have to deal with much on the comment level.

  21. Hi Barb,

DO NOT let those people bring you down. I see beauty in most things people throw out. I love that I feel that way, it lets my imagination go and try to think of what I could make with that. There are so many miserable (we own our own business) people out there, that it does matter what you do they are not satisfied. We have people we add in free things and then they complain and want them bigger for nothing (outdoor fireplaces, pools). Just think of all the good things that people have sent you, I am sure they far outway the bad and if you read the first few words and it does not sound nice, don't read it - get rid of it - it's negative and we need positive things in our life. Anyways, I could go on and on. But you are a wonderful person and don't you forget it!!

  22. Dear Barbara, please, cheer up and don't give any other second of thought to that anon comment!!!! You don't deserve being sad!
Thanks for all the marvellous things you share with all of us

  23. First and foremost, I love reading your blog. You are such an inspiration to me with your creativity and am pleased as punch with all the tutorials that you so graciously share with us.
I have been fortunate in that most of the anonymous comments are caught and blocked. I don't remember what I've done in order for that to happen. I would recommend that you go to Blogger and to see what you can do to keep this from happening. Every once in a while, an anonymous comment slips through and comes to my email account and I have found that about 99% of them are junk or spam. I don't even open them anymore. I just delete them all. It's just too much of a hassle to do so and I'm sure that I've deleted some that come from very decent people but I don't understand why their ID is as such anyway. Maybe someone can explain that.
It's sad that people find it necessary to leave rude comments but I hope that you'll remember all the wonderful and encouraging comments that you receive and not be discouraged by the few bad apples that are out there.

  24. Oh, I'm sorry Barb! It's amazing to me that people take the time to write mean things. Don't they have anything better to do?? And does it make them feel better to tear someone down anonymously over the internet???
I feel sorry for the mean people that they are that lost that they need to try to hurt someone else, but I am also sorry that they picked you, one of the sweetest people out there. Hang in there and know that you are talented and valued.
    Pam
p.s. I agree about the word verification thingy--I can never read the darn things. It takes me forever to finally get a comment through on those! :)
