What is it?? ANSWERED AND MORE INFO!!!

I seem to have a knack for finding unique treasures.
That is fun, but often I do not even know what they are.
Like this box with a drawer.
It is approximately 10x4x2".

It has this 'thing' on the top
The 'thing' can swing up or down,
and has little grooved on it, maybe markers?
The lever goes up and down, too,
and is maybe what is supposed to control the up and down arm?

Can anyone tell me what it is??
You are all so great at helping me with these things. =)

Hi Barb! I think that is part of a scale. We have one very similar, the kind of scale that had an arm across the top then little plates off each side. The drawer held the weights that went with the scale. Don't know if that makes sense to you or not!

I agree that it's part of a scale and the box is a cash drawer. Think back to when they were prospecting and paid with gold nuggets and gold dust. Could be a very old piece- hang onto it until you find out.

Even more info. from Tete:
This is on EBAY for $85 starting bid.
Antique Metal Scale 1890's-1900's

Now I know mine is not complete, but how cool is it
I have even part of a scale from the 1890's to 1900's?
Thanks all for the info!!

You do find some unusual items :-) It is fun to find out what they are. Too bad I don't live in OR; I would be in your shop ALL THE TIME. I have actually never been to OR and would love to one day. BTW - Thanks for your sweet comment on my blog. As always, enjoy your blog...

I love seeing old items like this that were beautiful and served a utilitarian purpose. These days, everything is so streamlined and made of plastic or steel. :/ Wishing you a wonderful day. Tammy
